2014 IEEE Computer Society Annual Symposium on VLSI awards Crocus’ PhD best PhD Forum Award


This Symposium explores emerging trends and novel ideas and concepts in the area of VLSI. Research areas covered are system architecture, analog and digitals circuits, computer-aided design and verification, testing, reliability, fault-tolerance and post-CMOS technologies. For the past two decades, the conference has been a unique forum for promoting visionary approaches to VLSI design process and has been an esteemed venue for presenting multidisciplinary research. The Symposium brings together leading scientists and researchers from academia and industry.

This year, ISVLSI hosted a Ph.D. Forum , providing opportunity for Ph.D. students to present their thesis work to a broad audience in the VLSI community from both industry and academia.


Paper : Exploration of Magnetic RAM based Memory Hierarchy for Multicore Architecture

The goal of this article is to highlight the interest to use MRAM for cache memory in order to keep overall application performance saving static power. In this paper, we explore integration of MRAM into the memory hierarchy of multiprocessor architecture. Both performance and energy are evaluated using a processor architecture simulator and a circuit-level model simulator for non-volatile memories. We demonstrate that use of MRAM is an attractive alternative to optimize overall system power consumption without lost in performance.
This work was done as part of a thesis managed by Crocus Technology in collaboration with the LIRMM laboratory.
